SPRING CLASSES BEGINNING SUNDAY APRIL 27th

TRAINING BY ROOTED IN EDEN - THE HEARTHMOTHER JOURNEY
Join me as I further my educational and spiritual skills in assisting my clients in achieving a Christ-filled perinatal experience.
As I complete The Hearthmother Journey Course I will be adding new material to the Untamed Childbirth Classes with a focus on biblical truth surrounding birth and the way of Jesus.

Birth is often a very touchy and sensitive subject, but it is also an extremely important one. Bringing children into the world is not only a gift from God, but a huge responsibility. There are many misconceptions surrounding childbirth and scripture, and sadly, the snow-balling result is widespread birth trauma that women endure for years/decades after. It's important to remember that as Christians, we may be in the world, but we are not of the world. Yet, we have allowed the world to dictate how we birth (filled with fear and trauma) and have completely ignored God’s presence in childbirth. My goal is to restore expecting mother's faith and let go of the fears, welcome God into the birthing room, trauma free, and give the authority back to Him.

Understanding childbirth and its physiologic process is essential in obtaining the tools and confidence to advocate for yourself in your birth. Why is this important? Because without knowledge, without confidence, without comfort, peace, faith, and understanding, all of our trust is put elsewhere (typically our medical providers). Understanding what is happening within our bodies as our babies make their way into our arms brings back the beauty, sacredness, and meaning of childbirth.

I am not a modern midwife. I do not practice western medicine - and I will not seek any government-controlled certification in regards to birth. Why? Because the government knows nothing about physiologic birth, yet they hold the authority on what is and is not allowed for their "approved" (licensed/certified) midwives. I do not believe anyone should hold authority over the birthing mother. My care is completely mother-led and rooted in faith.
What is a midwife?
Midwifery is one of the oldest professions in human history, world-wide. Up until the 1940's, midwives were the primary providers in America. Traditionally, midwives apprenticed with more experienced, older midwives as they learned how childbirth unfolded in its natural, physiologic process. These midwives traveled and tended to mothers and babies in their own homes, and their roles were critical as they were often times the only primary care providers in their community. Their focus was to care for women's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. They did not answer to anyone who knew very little, if anything, about pregnancy and childbirth. They believed in the sacred ceremony of childbirth. They held space for women and supported them through every stage.

So, what happened?
In the 1800s, male physicians began inserting themselves into childbirth. With very little understanding of the sacredness of childbirth and its physiologic process, they strongly opposed midwife-assisted birth. They launched campaigns against midwives and heavily promoted their pain relief drugs in relation to childbirth. Though male physicians still knew very little about childbirth and had very little experience in its process, they routinely attended half of births over the traditional midwives. Until the 1940s, midwives still attended 75% of births in rural America, and by 1980 they only attended 1.1% of births. This complete dismantling of midwifery was a result of laws, restrictions, and campaigns (based on lies, deception, and fear mongering) led against the practice. In 1921, the Shepphard-Tower Infancy and Protection Act became federal law, which essentially gave states the power to outlaw midwifery not associated with medical training. As women virtually had no say in the laws of the states, are we surprised?
